Application forms may be downloaded or picked up in person. If you would like a copy sent to you, please call or send an e-mail CAPPP at info@cappp.ucla.edu.

Below is a list of the 4 items that must accompany each application. There is also an interview process that each student must go through prior to acceptance.

1. Writing Sample: Attach a short essay (one-page, single-spaced) on one area of study you wish to explore in Washington through your research and internship placement. This essay might focus on a current public policy, an economic phenomenon, a historical question, or a politically relevant debate in the arts community - any area of study that takes advantage of Washington's many resources and builds on your experiences. Discuss what kinds of internships might be helpful in exploring this subject area. Please do not include specific organizations or agencies unless you are using them as examples of possible internships. (This essay may be forwarded to internship sponsors you may have not listed.) Please give this essay a title and include your name, but exclude your student ID number.

2. Resume: Submit a one-page resume, highlighting relevant educational and work experiences, special skills such as languages, and any other related experience (political, artistic, research, etc.). Do not include a statement of your career objectives.

3. Letter(s) of Recommendation: Submit at least one letter of recommendation, preferably from a UCLA professor who is familiar with your work. A letter from a professor in your area of interest is best. A letter from a TA is acceptable, though not preferable. All letters must be written on letterhead and addressed, To Whom It May Concern. If chosen to participate in the program, you will be required to have two letters of recommendation to assist in internship placements. We recommend that you secure this second letter as early as possible.
PLEASE NOTE: All letters of recommendation MUST be either sent to CAPPP directly or submitted in a SEALED ENVELOPE. Open letters submitted by the applicant will not be accepted.

4. Transcript: Attach a current copy of your transcript (NOT a DPR), including collegiate work done at universities other than UCLA. The transcript may be an unofficial.

Students will be selected for an interview based on the strength of their paper applications. At the interview, students will be expected to answer general questions pertaining to their academic and professional history, as well as specific questions pertaining to their research interest. More information on the interview will be provided to students who are selected.
