  Supplementary Items
In order to complete this application, you must also submit the following items:
  • Short Essay: Attach a short (no longer than one-page, single-spaced) essay on one area of study you wish to explore in Washington through your research and internship placement. This essay might focus on a current public policy, an economic phenomenon, a historical question, or a politically relevant debate in the arts community-any area of study that takes advantage of Washington’s resources and builds on your experiences. Discuss what kinds of internships might be helpful in exploring this subject area. Please do not include specific organizations or agencies unless you are using them as examples of possible internships. (This essay may be forwarded to internship sponsors you may not have listed.) Please give this essay a title and include your name, but exclude your student ID#.
  • Resume: Submit a one-page resume, highlighting relevant educational and work experiences, any special skills, and any other related experiences (political, artistic, research, etc.). Do not include a statement of your career objectives. Be sure to include an address where you may be reached.
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation: Submit at least one letter of recommendation, preferably from a UCLA professor who is familiar with your work. A letter from a professor in your area of interest is best. A letter from a TA is acceptable, though not preferable. You can submit additional letters if you wish. If chosen to participate in the program, you will be required to have two letters of recommendation to assist in internship placements. We recommend that you secure this second letter as early as possible.
All letters must be written on letterhead and addressed To Whom It May Concern.
PLEASE NOTE: All letters of recommendation MUST either be sent to CAPPP directly or submitted in a SEALED ENVELOPE. Open letters submitted by the applicant will not be accepted. Letters must be received by the application deadline.
  • Unofficial Transcript: Attach a current unofficial transcript (NOT a DPR), including collegiate work done at universities other than UCLA.

You may e-mail your writing sample and resume to info@cappp.ucla.edu. Please be sure to include your student ID number in the subject field. All other items must be delivered to 4250Q Public Policy Building.
